Update your Google My Business listing with COVID-19 Information that is affecting your business

Many businesses are affected by COVID-19 - some are closed but some are still operating in different ways.

It is important to communicate the changes and let your customers and potential customers know how your business is effected and what you are doing differently to still provide your services.

In addition to updating your website an sending email communication you can update your Google My Business profile. On your listing you can provide updates about your business to customers such as:

  • Update from ‘dine in’ to take away / deliveries

  • Updated business hours.

  • Location changes (worknig remotely)

  • Venue for meetings / networking updates to ‘online’

  • Mark your business “Temporarily closed”

Note from Google: Marking your business “Temporarily closed” won't affect local search ranking and it will be treated similar to open businesses. Businesses offering pickup or delivery services should not mark the business “Temporarily closed,” otherwise those services won't show on Google.

Ways you can update your Google listing:

Add a COVID-19 post to your profile.

A new type of post is now available on Google My Business - COVID-19 POST.
Examples for updates:

  • Update on business hours

  • Changes to location (for example worknig remotely)

  • New products available - for example gift cards.

  • Update on how you deliver your services

  1. Add new attributes

This is to highlight new options - for example ‘delivery’

  2. Add a disclaimer to your profile

You can indicate that business info may not be up to date.

  3. Mark your business ‘temporary closed’

    see more information here

  4. Use messaging (on the Google My Business App)
