How to make a good case study for your website + examples

Case studies are excellent in showcasing how you helped a client as they clearly lay out how your services were used to solve a problem, and the results.

Case studies are great for -

  • Portfolio showcase for creatives: designers, photographers & copywriters.

  • Problem solving with services for consultants and coachers.

  • Project showcase for home improvement sector: Builders, landscape designers, architects, interior designers

A good case study tells a full story -

  • starting with the client: who they are (or industry if you need to keep it confidential)

  • the problems they came to you with

  • How you solved the problem: approach + steps you took / services offered

  • Result: included any data if available (for example enquiries increased by 20%)

  • Testimonial: clients words about the experience in working with you.

Top tips from Audrey Paige at Audrey Paige Copywriting:

“Choose case studies that will best mirror the issues that your ideal customer is facing themselves! You want them to see their own issues (and your brilliant solutions) when they read the story. And remember that most readers will skim case studies, so skip the fluffy content and go for solid headers to help pull their eyes to the relevant sections.”

It is important to select case studies that showcase a good variety of your services / project types and client industry.

You do not need to showcase all your projects for your case studies - you can simply showcase a handfull that show diffrant servcies or sectors you work with.

If you are a creative you might want to show more projects - this can be done by using a portfolio gallery in addition to case studies that provide more details.

Tip: If you are restricted (or don’t want to) in disclosing the client, you can use industry and not mention business name or show logo.

 Visuals are very important -

Use at least one image per case study so the content of the page is not text only and will help readers visualise and engage with your work

  • If you are a creative business, you can easily showcase the work you completed.

  • For consultant type case studies, you can include client brand images (if possible), stock images that represent the industry, or a photo of the client.

Top: In the case of copywriters, try an excerpt of words or screen shots of websites or mock-ups of brochures.
